Drowning

Fallen beams and scattered light
Form the shadows I must fight
Until the ocean rushes in
And drowns me 'fore the fight begins,
Crashing sea and waving foam,
Crunching bones and throaty moan,
Spinning rays and lively laugh,
Water bears me down it's path,
Spinning to the darkness deep,
Tearing tears from eyes that weep,
Grasping hand and fingers stiff,
Up from water, then a lift
And sunlight blinds my stinging eyes,
Farther up I seem to rise
'Til I float among the stars,
And farther, to the farthest far;
Salty brine is peeled away,
I pass on through curtain gray
And see the endless reach for me,
For though I ceased, still yet I be.
