Fallen hopes and scattered dreams
Across the sand like diamonds seem.
The tide will carry them away,
The moon by night, the sun by day,
The wind will brush against the sky
And push the clouds to weep and cry
So tears may rain upon the shore,
They'll fall until there are no more.
Then stars will sweep the storm aside,
The sea will thrash and come alive
And waves will pound the coast around
To mimic thunder's absent sound,
And I will lift my hands and sing
To join the herons on their wing,
To light the ocean all afire,
To meet the sky and take it high'r.
I'll ride the wind above the waves
On roads it built and ways it paves,
I'll pass the stars and groaning thunder,
I'll tear the lightning all asunder.
Then finally I'll come to rest
Upon the ocean's heaving chest
And there I'll breathe the salt air in.
The next part of my life begins.
